Not too long ago, Lynn and I started recording for our new podcast on learner-centered leadership: Shift Your #Leadership Paradigm. We are excited to roll this out to you in late April! Following the terrific conversation we had with Education Reimagined‘s Executive Director, Kelly Young, I attended a three-day Edcamp Leadership Summit. I have to […]

[series] #ISTE2016: Walking the vendor floor through the #edleadership lens

Ever since the #PENNSV16 trip to the San Francisco area several months ago, I’ve been seriously interested in the relationship between #edtech vendors and #edleadership. Fast forward to #ISTE2016 and the opportunity to dig deeper into this relationship. If you’ve ever been to an ISTE conference, you know the vendor floor is like a carnival […]

What I learned about innovation at Edcamp Hershey – #sweetpd

A few weeks ago I shared some thoughts on innovation in a post titled Curious about innovation in K12. Attending Edcamp Hershey today, my colleagues and I took advantage of the opportunity to engage in a conversation with educators about this topic by offering a session, How do we lead innovation? — supporting curriculum, instruction […]

Last month I was quite surprised to be recognized by PAECT as the 2015 Outstanding Leader of the Year at the annual PETE&C conference. Thanks to Robin Burns, Diahann Snisky and Kelly Wetherhold for putting forth the nomination. But most importantly, thanks to the team of educators and board members I get to work with in […]

PETE&C 2015 – Are you evaluating your tech initiative?

In the last post, Moving toward transformation…., I shared how a colleague (@lfuinihetten) and I were days from the opportunity to dig deeper into our leadership challenge and working with 18 other school districts from across the country, researchers such as Ruben Puentedura and Damian Bebel, and a team of facilitators from Apple, Inc. Because of inclement weather conditions, we never made it […]

Twitteracy, Literacy and Generation Z – a few more presentations

Twitteracy, Literacy and Generation Z – a few more presentations

Presentations benefit both presenter and attendee as opportunities to share and learn. I enjoy sharing ideas, and developing a presentation always helps me to clarify my own thinking. And if others can benefit in that process, that’s a bonus! In the last post, I shared a presentation I did for the Keystone Technology Innovators/Integrators group […]

About Working At The Edge:

My name is Randy Ziegenfuss, and I'm a retired public school superintendent and a life-long educator with over 34 years experience developing a passion for teaching, learning, leadership and technology. <read more...>

I first came across the phrase working at the edge while learning about the work of Marzano, et al. School Leadership That Works: From Research to Results. In this work, the researchers define 21 responsibilities of the school leader, one being change agent. A change agent is defined as one who is, "...willing to challenge school practices that have been in place for a long time and promoting the value of working at the edge of one's competence."
