In a previous blog post, I suggested educators, particularly leaders, ask this question about technology use:
How does the technology advance us toward our vision for learning?
Keeping in mind that learner agency is a big part of that vision, I’ve been intrigued by a quote from Gary Stager:
Technology is not neutral. It bestows agency on the system, the teacher or the learner.
After some reflection, here are new leadership questions we should be asking about #edtech use in our classrooms:
How is the technology designed – to leverage learner, teacher or system agency?
How are we using technology in ways that shift the maximum agency to the learner?
In order to answer these questions, schools need to first have a compelling vision for learning, and it must include high levels of learner agency. Working on creating a vision for learning? You may be interested in an earlier post on our crisis of vision.
