The use of social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter has increased over the past several years at an incredible rate. Social media can be used to connect to our family and friends, but it is increasingly used to connect to a larger community and the world with the intention of producing something good.

How comfortable are we as educators using social media tools? How are we using these tools now? Do we participate in or use social media for social change? Should we be teaching our students how to use social media for social change? How do we update our instructional practices?

    This is a really great post! It’s very eye opening to how Social Media/Networking has changed this generation and how we communicate. I personally know that we use Social Media in the majority of my college classes. Our professors stress using those sites as tools to help find jobs and launch projects. It’s a social media takeover!

I first came across the phrase working at the edge while learning about the work of Marzano, et al. School Leadership That Works: From Research to Results. In this work, the researchers define 21 responsibilities of the school leader, one being change agent. A change agent is defined as one who is, "...willing to challenge school practices that have been in place for a long time and promoting the value of working at the edge of one's competence."
